CADETS VISIT GRAYS AGAIN TO SUPPORT ‘LOVE IN A BOX’ CAMPAIGN

Sat 20th October 2012

Since Grays Shopping Centre launched the ‘Love in a Box’ campaign on Saturday 18th August appealing to the generous spirit of Grays and asking them to take part in the Operation Shoe Box appeal, over 100 boxes have been collected!

Local Cadets will be visiting the Centre this Saturday 20th October again to show their support. They will be doing a Drill Demonstration during the day to entertain the public and bring along their fantastic Remote Control Tank that will be running a collection box around the mall.   The public will be invited to come and look at photos that have been sent back from Afghanistan and to see boxes that have already been made up for ideas of what to put in. There will also be a Name the Teddy Competition taking place for a lucky shopper to win a teddy which is fully dressed in full military uniform, which are sold for £35.   Operation Shoe Box is an organisation that encourages people to fill shoe boxes with a range of useful and everyday items that mean a great deal to the troops, some of whom have been away for months and are missing basic items that people in the UK take for granted. Shoppers are being asked to fill an empty shoe box with everyday items such as deodorant, sweets, razors and wet wipes.  The boxes will then be sent to theUK’s service men and women around the globe including Afghanistan.   Donators are also encouraged to tape £2 onto the outside of each box upon their gift in order to aid with delivery expenses. Also there is the addition to sign a Christmas card to be added to the boxes for the troops to further boost morale in Afghanistan for a donation.
