TROOPS THANK GRAYS FOR ‘LOVE IN A BOX’ CAMPAIGN

Wed 28th November 2012

Grays Shopping Centre launched the ‘Love in a Box’ campaign on Saturday 18th August appealing to the generous spirit of Grays and asking them to take part in our Operation Shoe Box appeal.

Operation Shoe Box is an organisation that encourages people to fill shoe boxes with a range of useful and everyday items that mean a great deal to the troops, some of whom have been away for months and are missing basic items that people in theUKtake for granted.   Shoppers were being asked to fill an empty shoe box with everyday items such as deodorant, sweets, razors and wet wipes.  The boxes were then sent to the UK’s service men and women around the globe including Afghanistan.   The Mayor of Thurrock, Cllr Yash Gupta MBE and Grays Shopping Centre have received a thank you email from L/Cpl Brown in the 102 Bn regiment in Afghanistan. His emailed said: “Many thanks for your thoughtful welfare boxes which arrived this week out here in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. It has been shared amongst the troops and is much appreciated.   Centre Manager, Keith Evans, commented: “It is heartwarming to receive an email like this and would like to thank the shoppers here at Grays for their donations and support during our campaign. Donations have gone to unknown soldiers it strengthens them to know they have the support of the people back home”.
